Space Age

In The mid sixties the space age look really came into fashion with the designs of Andre Courreges.  He used materials such as plastic and metal and made clothes into geometrical shapes.  The colors he used were mostly metallic, whites, and reds.  Boots and goggles were also part of the space age look.  Pierre Cardin was another space age designer.  His clothes included catsuits, cut-out dresses and the material was metal and plastic.  Pierre Cardin was also the designer of the Beatles trademark collarless jackets.  The Space Age era was not just in fashion but was also in furniture, architecture and home decor.

Biba

Biba was a fashion store in London during the 1960s and 70s.  It was owned by Barbara Hulanicki.  The first store was on Abingdon road in Kensington and opened in September of 1964.  When Biba started out most of the outfits were cheap and were sold by mail order.  The gingham dress made Biba very successful.  4,000 of the dresses were sold right away.  As the years passed Biba became more and more popular and a Biba department store was opened in 1974.  It had mens, womens and childrens clothes and many different floors.  A year later Biba closed
