Sidewalk Surfin

Skateboards were first manufactured sometime in the 1940s or 50s in Los Angeles California.  They were basically just like a surfboard expect they weren't made for water.  Skating was another thing that was fun to do in the 50s besides surfing and was very similar.  Surfing was more than just a hobby but a way of life and skating proved to be the same way especially in the seventies.  By the early sixties skateboarding had grown very popular, but towards 1966 skateboard sales dropped and remained that way until the early 70s.  In the 70s skateboards were designed differently and there were more styles.  By the mid 70s skateboarders took advantage of the newly manufactured skateboards and started inventing new tricks.  Skateboarders also started skating in empty swimming pools.  Popular skateboarders of the 70s were Ty Page, Bruce Logan, Kevin Reed, and the Z-Boys.
